THE ANIMAL
Unlike the wild Alaskan Dall sheep, the Texas Dall is a hybrid, non-native "exotic" species primarily found on private, fenced ranches. These rams grow an impressive 1 ½ or more curls and make a beautiful mount and conversation piece for years to come. We have a large variety of trophy rams available at the Rose Lake Ranch and hunt them year around. Texas Dall ram meat is very lean and mild compared to most wild sheep, with a clean, slightly sweet flavor and no strong “gamey” taste when properly handled. It’s best cooked low and slow or medium-rare to avoid drying out, similar to high-quality lamb but with a firmer texture.
